
Thomas Czerniawski, Ph.D.
Lab Director
Thomas Czerniawski is an assistant professor at Arizona State University (ASU) in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment and Del E. Webb School of Construction. He joined ASU in 2020 after completing his BASc. and MASc. at the University of Waterloo and his Ph.D., at the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Czerniawski started his career coordinating heavy civil construction projects in transportation and power generation, later shifting into digital technology development for construction and facility management. He has created computer vision systems for industrial fabrication quality control, building information model updating, and construction progress monitoring. He has received awards from the European Group for Intelligent Computing in Engineering and the American Society of Civil Engineers Data Sensing and Analysis research communities for important contributions to open research datasets. He currently directs the Edifice Lab, whose mission it is to automate the creation of immersive digital learning experiences for the builders and stewards of infrastructure.
